The Little Things That Matter During Treatment

The Little Things That Matter During Treatment

I wanted to bring together the four key products that helped me through treatment. This is no means an exhaustive list, but it gives you a starting point to start exploring.

Clicking the links will take you to the Amazon page where you can explore different styles and colours (if you make a purchase, I get a small commission, just so you know!).

Surgery:

After surgery I was given a heart shaped cushion to put under my arm on the side of the operation. It made such a difference to me and I was able to get comfortable and less tired as I recovered. The rather talented Clare at ClaresSewCrafty produces these cushions, plus seatbelt covers for improving comfort while in the car. You should definitely check out her collection for more items.

I was worried about the scar after surgery, I wanted it to heal quickly and stay as soft and supple as possible. I was bought some bio-oil and I think it made a huge difference to my recovery - the nurses often commented on how good it was looking! I applied it morning and night, taking at least 5 minutes to massage it in (obviously, wait until you get the go ahead from your doctor before you start using it!). My surgeon has recommended that I keep using it two years on from surgery.

Chemotherapy:

For my chemotherapy, I had a PICC line inserted. I was given a bandage to keep the external part of the PICC covered, but it was not very stylish! Luckily, there are some rather lovely PICC line covers available to keep it safe but still look good. You can find them on PICC-Me's Amazon page.

One of the biggest worries was the hair loss. I used a cold cap ( and I will write a blog of my experiences of this soon!), but still ended up losing the majority of my hair (it did grow back quickly). I found having sleeping caps and soft caps for everyday use the most comfortable - in particular the bamboo ones which are made by Masumi Headwear.

And lastly, but certainly not least, I must mention Silk & Lawn in Brighton who make the most beautiful swimming hats (mine is shown in the main photo of this article!). Perfect for anyone, not just those going through chemo. (for all the legal wotsits - I don't make any commission from this link, I just think they are rather wonderful and you should know about them).

Remember, you got this.
